τοῦ Χριστοῦ ὅς ἐστιν εἰκὼν τοῦ Θεοῦ (comp. 3:18 τὴν αὐτὴν εἰκόνα μεταμορφούμεθα). Closely allied to εἰκὼν also is χαρακτήρ, which appears in the same connexion in Heb. 1:3 ὤν ἀπαύγασμα τῆς δόξης καὶ χαρακτὴρ τῆς ὑποστάσεως αὐτοῦ, a passage illustrated by Philo de Plant. 5 (1. p. 332) σφραγο͂δι Θεοῦ ἧς ὁ χαρακτὴρ ἐστιν ἀΐδιος λόγος.
